โ€˜I have had to experience so much stupidity, so many vices, so much error, so much nausea, disillusionment, and sorrow, just in order to become a child again and begin anew. I had to experience despair, I had to sink to the greatest mental depths, to thoughts of suicide, in order to experience grace.โ€™

Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha

i am the son of the boy

                i am the boy

Vasudeva looked into my heart and told me of myself

i am of the eternal life

                and like the boy

my heart is proud and hard

                people like us

                need to err

                suffer much

                burden ourselves with sin

                and like the boyโ€™s father

i too am waiting for my wound to blossom and shine

Behind the poem...

I found the book Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse (originally published in 1922) a few months after coming out of a severe depression and leaving an abusive relationship. It was a journey of healing; being reborn again and again, and understanding that I was meant to go through the darkness in order share this light. Hesseโ€™s book lit something in my soul. I hope my poem lights something within others.
